Inspired by black metal and Gustave Dore - two big loves - my first attempt at Scratchboard etching - i like it alot and it is great for dark pictures of metaphysical doom - it amazes me how it is that pictures in black and white and chiaroscuro have such a dimension to them - that somehow the pictures can be read metaphorically, symbolically and all else metaphysical as much as or even in precedence to taking the picture literally. -
Thank you very much - i really like this work too and despite its rough parts (the norm for me and my haphazard slap dash abilities) i still really like it mostly because i am not sure how i did it even. I have been experimenting with more scratchboard, but can go through so much valauable board before getting something to work in the black way this one has for me. scratchboard is though great and i have used it with a mix of photoshop more recently, but also done explicitly in just scratch for a 2 panel piece based on wuthering heights - i cant show it here but i found that scratchboard could definitely capture the dark romance of that tragedy
Hiya - thank you -i am glad you find this, as it is how they more or less appear in my minds eye. For good or ill i seem to be unable to picture them any other way, and you will see this soon enough in several larger followup works
